8 Home Décor Items to Always Buy at IKEA (that don’t look cheap)
Hey Hosts,
If you have been following along on Instagram you know I love a good home décor hack. If you love getting design tips and tricks, be sure to give me a follow over at @amberleeinteriors. My goal has always been to design your short-term rentals for success but to help save you some money along the way. Not everything in your BNB needs to be high end to give your rental a luxury look, you just need to know how to mix the high & low price tags to create magic. My favourite way to do this, is by taking something with a higher value such as a couch and layering it with inexpensive throws and pillows. If you’re choosing textures that don’t look and feel cheap, you will never know the difference (trust me on this one).
Ok, so now for the goods. Here are 10 décor items I always buy from IKEA. Not only are IKEA stores everywhere, but they carry some tried and true items with prices that can’t be beat!
Slipcover Sofas & Chairs
These sofas and chairs (especially the UPPLAND) are seriously so comfortable you won’t want to get up once you sit down. Don’t be surprised if your guests are leaving 5-star reviews in the comfort department. Besides from comfort, they are stylish and durable. The slipcovers can be removed and thrown in the wash, if you have a quick turnaround, you could even have a second slipcover for backup at around $169 CND per cover. Check out the UPPLAND sofa here.
Curtains
IKEA carries curtains from sheer all the way to black out. I wouldn’t suggest all the curtains are high end but they defiantly have a good selection for any room in your short-term rental. As a host you probably don’t want to be spending a fortune on things that can’t be washed often, this is a great way to add a cozy element without the fuss.
Faux Plants & Trees
I know there is the old debate about whether to use faux or real when it comes to plants but let’s be honest – what host needs to be worrying about watering a plant. You might be saying to yourself right now “then let’s not use any” but I’m here to tell you that having greenery in your rental will help a ton to elevate the space. There is something about a pop of greenery that makes a space come to life. IKEA has some great options when it comes to faux greenery and I often use them in my own projects. Here are some great options.
Baskets and Storage Bins
Baskets are one of my favourite ways to add natural texture into a rental design. You can use them as tree baskets, blanket baskets or even just for added storage. IKEA has so many great options at amazing prices. Check out the basket that I use all the time and it’s only $16.99. FLADIS Basket
RIBBA Photo Frames
IKEA’s frames are amazing, and the price is so low you almost feel like you are stealing. The RIBBA frame is high quality, I use these frames in my client’s designs and in my own home. The frames come in a variety of sizes and colours. RIBBA frame
Floor Lamps
Having different lighting options throughout your AIRBNB rental is ideal for creating a relaxing space for your guests. Floor lamps are a great way to add a design element and task lighting to your living rooms and bedrooms. You don’t need to spend a fortune for a nice-looking lamp and IKEA proves this to be true. Pillow Covers, Inserts & Throw Blankets
Texture is all the rage when designing your rentals to be cozy and inviting. Without texture your space will fall flat and be super boring. When it comes to hosting multiple guests, you need items that can be easily washed, IKEA’s pillow inserts and covers are the perfect solution. They are affordable and the quality is great. Throw blankets are a must have and you can stock up without breaking the bank. I always pick up a few throws when I’m there. KRISTIANNE Cushion cover 20x20
Mirrors
If you are on the hunt for bathroom or decorative mirrors IKEA has some great options. I have used the Stockholm and Lindbyn mirrors in previous projects and both held up great. STOCKHOLM Mirror
